I think that "esperanto" has been the answer to at least two final Jeopardy questions within the last six months. Too bad the "universal language" is only spoken by about 100 people. Kind of defeats the "universal" adjective.
what is esperanto?? is it like guesstures?
slskenyon: i know! i figured it was a sign that i should do this, because it was the final jeopardy answer the day after i decided to learn.
i know it's dorky, given the fact that no one really speaks it, but it's soooooo easy, i figured why not. of course that's coming from a five year background in french.
go to the site and do the bildoj kaj demandoj course (pictures and questions) and you'll see.
rich: it's the univeral language! which is, obviously, not so universal. it's crazy easy and logical.
is the language used in apocalypto?
i don't think so. it's just some language a guy made up about 100 years ago.

Rich is completely wrong. It is estimated that around 1-2 million people speak Esperanto. It's incredibly easy to learn. 6 months of using Lernu.net less than 2 hours a week has gotten me to a level far surpassing where I got with 3 years of French 4 hours a week.
