NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Someone hold me and say it isn't so.
alex trebek is a horrible, horrible man. he's an apparent misogynist who thinks he knows everything. we don't think you do, alex. but we still love the Jeopardy! ...and other things too.
Our own Noah Bailey, aka the Naptime Shake, will don his homemade Nacho Libre regalia to perform a set at Club Dada tonight with National Eye, The Capitol Years and The Shut Up Shop. The Shakester goes on at 9 p.m. and if you're wearing a costume, cover is but 2 dolla.
i have this unhealthy love for wikipedia. anytime i feel the need to find out some trivial little piece of info (which is quite often, let me tell you), i just turn to my good pal wiki and read all about it. i mean really, what's up with ohio's weird flag anyway?.... but sometimes i don't know if i trust the contributors and i'm always afraid that i'm being misinformed.
Just got word that I won second place in the costume contest! Yay! Noah "Nacho Libre" Bailey won third. He just might have been robbed. Someone else dressed as an East Dallas Hipster and totally went all out with his costume...so out that he now has this new blog.
Today is costume day at work, since actual Halloween falls on press day. So I present you with my incarnation of none other than Match Game titan, Charles Nelson Reilly:
and
"One time, Betty White laughed so hard her boob fell out! OH!"
(that's actually from Alec Baldwin's impression of CNR on Saturday Night Live but I love it.)
Other costumes 'round these parts include Nacho Libre, East Dallas Hipster, Giant Panties, Ann Coulter, a Jedi Knight (with his real infant son dressed as Yoda), Lucy from Peanuts, Napoleon Dynamite and an Old Woman Who Sat on Her Dog. A banner day.
Just thinking about all that time after graduation spent at the Garland Bennigan's. And no, I'm sadly not kidding. Jen and I (and our pals) were there often enough to roll freakin' silverware. It was pretty odd. But hey, it's Garland. Where else are you going to go?
Here.
this is why:
Jen's been doing it for years, but this year I finally broke down and signed up. Will I even break 2,000? Who knows. (Jen says affirmatively, "Oh, yeah.") Jen was even a winner in 2003. Yeah, that's right. I'm hanging with NaNoWriMo greatness over here.
Anyhoo, wish us luck! ...or better yet, wish us speed (writing, not narcotic). ...better still, sign up yourself.
we've both been pretty absent lately. i'm sorry about that. we've both become new aunts recently. i promise that we'll be much more attentive in the coming days.
I love it when local artists cover other local artists. Something about that makes me all warm and fuzzy...you know, people caring about each other's music and creativity is actually cool.
i'm not entirely sure how i feel about the idea of scarlett johansson cutting an album. especially a tom waits cover album.
people give me funny looks at work all the time, but i think it may have something to do with the amount of laugh out loud stuff i find while sitting here. i try my best to limit my humor intake by visiting some sites only once a week or so because, trust me on this one, no one likes getting off the elevator only to see some red-faced-giggly-tears-in-her-eyes receptionist who can't answer the phone without taking a deep breath.
with this damn fedex commercial. i love it (just go to the site and click on the "map" commercial). it makes me happy way too much.
I cannot stop laughing at this. It may be old. You may have seen it. I don't care. It's awesome.
the DO:
Well, Cindy actually posted this Wednesday (I'm a little slow on the uptake, with a big deadline kickin' my ass this week), but for those of you looking forward to the big Polyphonic Spree Holiday Concert--like my sweet, sweet mommy--it ain't happenin' this year. Too much on the calendar for the harmonic militia.
Um, can I get an unironic HELL YEAH! for the photographically brilliant discovery that Jonnie B at WNMC hath wrought?
celebrity jeopardy starts november 8. i know, this is a bit of early notice, but come on people. it's way more entertaining than the tournament of champions. and a bit easier to play along with.
so it turns out that the fine folks in charge of the fate of andrea yates and dena schlosser made them roommates. is that such a good idea?
the DO, I offer a "man-on-the-street" (yeah, sure, that's what it is) on The Black Angels.
...buy me this lovely thing of awesomeness for my collection? (Alan, you know this means you have competition. Get to silkscreening, handsome.)
everyone loves the neiman marcus christmas book. sure, there are actual gifts listed, but what people really care about are the fantasy gifts. this year we have a backyard water park, a chartered trip to space, and the house of fath couture archives ( a steal at 3.5 mil) among other things: there's something for every wannabe ecentric millionaire.
but this is what i want. for only $40,000 i could have a 7 foot tall skyscraper made out of pencils. yup. pencils. number 2 to be exact. don't worry, i can supply the sock monkey.
49 Up opens Friday at the Angelika. This is the seventh in Michael Apted's documentary series following a group of children beginning at the age of 7 and checking in every 7 years after. Jen got me hooked. While I'm totally stoked about this one, I do recommend you check out 7 Up, 21 Up and the others before jumping in at 49.
need a good laugh? saw this link to a pitchfork review on the forkers board. yeah. you know it.
