suck it trebek

alex trebek is a horrible, horrible man. he's an apparent misogynist who thinks he knows everything. we don't think you do, alex. but we still love the Jeopardy! ...and other things too.

an open letter to mick jagger

dear mick,

i'm sorry. really i am. i had no idea. maybe i've just been living in a bubble, but i've always associated you and your lovely band with crap tunes like "start me up" and "satisfaction", and i hate those songs. i really do. for some reason i'd never associated your finer works with "the stones", as the kids like to call you and your lot, so i just always assumed i didn't like you guys. i may have even thrown the word "hate" out there once or twice, but i'd like to take it back. i just didn't know any better.

i mean, really. how was i to know that "sympathy for the devil" was that song that i kept hearing EVERYWHERE? i knew you guys had a song by that name, but, i gotta tell you, nothing about that song tells me that it would be titled "sympathy for the devil". i just figured it had a different name, one that i always forget. my bad.

it all just comes down to the fact that, though i have liked many of your songs for a long time, i just never attributed them to you. i never made the song -> title -> band association that seemed to make sense to everyone else. blame my dad -- he was a beatles man. i think i even thought "ruby tuesday" was a beatles song....

now that i think about it, i've pretty much associated all of your songs (the good ones i mean) to other nameless 60s and 70s bands. i just tied you guys to the stadium rock stuff. that and jerry hall, but hey, everyone makes mistakes, right? somewhere along the line, i got into my head that songs like "beast of burden" and "fool to cry" were van morrison songs. i know, that sounds a little odd and i'm not entirely sure where it came from (and i'm starting to wonder if i even like van morrison anymore), but it would explain why i could never find the songs on any of his greatest hits compilations. what can i say, i can be a big tard sometimes.

so, i'm sorry about all that stuff i said before. you guys are pretty damn cool. please let the rest of the guys know that i didn't mean it when i said i didn't like them. it was all just an honest mistake. you seem like nice enough guys and your music's good stuff. no hard feelings?

jen

p.s. i'm still not paying a hundred bucks for a ticket to see you guys though.

Your ears will love you forever if you find copies of "Let it Bleed", "Beggar's Banquet", "Sticky Fingers" and "Exile on Main Street" and give them a spin.

Trivia time: The Stones have always managed to attract really amazing people to design their album covers. "Let it Bleed" was designed by Robert Brownjohn whilst legendary photograper Robert Frank shot the cover for "Exile on Main Street". They are probably my favourite two Stones records to boot.
