suck it trebek

alex trebek is a horrible, horrible man. he's an apparent misogynist who thinks he knows everything. we don't think you do, alex. but we still love the Jeopardy! ...and other things too.

Garth and Kat are my favorite SNL singing duo.

Seriously. Cannot. Handle.

Random 80s Musical Bullying Scenes

Marls sent me a link to a BuzzFeed list of the 12 Most Amazing After-School Specials. There was a link to this dance fight from Ace Hits the Big Time:

And it's awesome (especially, "You're gonna look like cooked spaghetti!"), but it really just reminded me of my all-time favorite random music scene from the kick-ass Teen Witch. I used to know all the words to it.

Enjoy, people. Enjoy.

I Am Currently Obsessed With...

I encourage you to watch all of it. Repeatedly. Thanks to George over at Uncorrected Personality Traits for finding the video. I'd searched for way to long. We concur that "Fat Country Baby" and "Sweet Corn Memories" are gems.
Also of note on UPT for Doctor Who fans: Doctor Mew. I'm pretty sure the black cat is Christopher Eccleston.

Models Falling Down!

OK, so last night Jen and I totally ate up the ANTM and Project Runway. Tranny, catty and delicious.
Then bellapoison over at The Beauty Crucible totally rocked my world with this post. Just go there. Trust me. Perhaps it makes me a bad person. Nah.

I Like Laughing

Thanks to Nerve.com and IFC for this neat li'l package of The 50 Greatest Comedy Sketches of All Time. My faves include anything and everything from the State, "Ass Pennies" from Upright Citizens Brigade, the Mr. Show sketch (there should be more), Celebrity Jeopardy on SNL (of course) and #37 from Smack the Pony (one of the most unheard of and underrated shows).

Canceled? You Don't Say!

Yeah, I'm being sarcastic, but part of me also really wishes I had seen Secret Talents of the Stars.

The story on CNN has more details, but really George Takai and Clint Black's "comedy" is all you need.

This Is Awful. Horrible. Just Gross.

Now, I like the Beatles, but I'm not a Beatles lover like some folks I know. I have favorite songs and whatnot but I don't worship at the feet of Lennon/McCartney/Harrison (the hot one, in my opinion)/Starr. But this American Idol performance is truly offensive. Maybe it's because "Eleanor Rigby" is one of those faves, but I'd like to think anyone in their right mind would find this atrocious. Here, the douchey David Cook butchers Ms. Rigby and Father MacKenzie. And shamefully, all three judges loved it. I was most disappointed in Simon. He is English after all.

Christian was Fierce Saturday Night.

"Just like Project Runway with some of the same people, half the budget and twice the catch phrases. Scratch that, three times the catch phrases."

Amy Poehler rocked that posturing.

Aubrey Obama

Jen and I are both huge Degrassi: The Next Generation fans. So, it seems only natural then that I would notice this crazy physical favoring between our beloved "Jimmy" (Aubrey Graham, actor and rapper aka Drake) and presidential candidate Barack Obama. See if you agree:

My Favorite Super Bowl Commercial

Rich offers that the screaming stain is akin to a large mole on someone's face.

In other notes concerning the Super Bowl, I'm thrilled about the Giants' win. I am not a Tom Brady fan. Thought it was cool that Eli wins the year after Peyton. Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet kicked ass. And then I spent the next 14 hours following the last cheese ball developing this awesome stomach virus that has more evil spirit than the unseen forces on Lost. But I shall overcome.

yeah we did

so, roughly around 7:40 wednesday night, merritt and i sat around my apartment with our eyes going back and forth between the ugly reading vs. chelsea game and the even uglier alex trebek staring at us next to a countdown clock. we were pumped and ready to go for our online jeopardy contestant test. to bad we didn't actually do anything to prepare. sure, we did better than some (my weird fascination with the tudors came in handy as did my office's subscription to time magazine) but alas, we were thwarted by crap like ungulates and vicunas. you get 15 seconds per questions, which really isn't very much time to think and type. sadly, looking at the transcript, i only got 27 right. i suck. brain farts and stopwatch paranoia kept me from getting a couple more that i actually knew.

at least i know merritt got 2 that i didn't. maybe she'll make it to the next round of auditions and represent suck it accordingly.

she should be posting her update shortly....

UPDATE:
Hi, it's me nerver, reporting in...
Yeah, we sat in the same room shouting out answers and feverishly typing. I, for one, let forgetting to look at the category screw up at least two of my questions. One was concerning steroids. Hello, Mitchell report. Duh. Hopefully, they'll accept "Heisma" for Heisman Trophy since they claim partial and misspellings do often count. I should never have second guessed myself on where the Danube dumps out--my first instinct of Black Sea was right. Oh well.
Thanks to Jen for providing me with Bleak House. I returned the fave with sheer and Indonesia. I believe my total was 29 or 30 but I honestly can't remember what I put for the capital of Canada. Which also happens to be indicative of my freshman year of college.

In the Air Tonight

I don't know how long it's been around or how many people saw this before me, but I am currently obsessed with what I consider one of the best in random commercials.

If you can top that please advise.

On December 11, he was in jeopardy.

Who is Alex Trebek?

Yes, we make fun of him and sure, we've bitched about him but we here at Alex would never hope for a heart attack (mild or otherwise) for anyone. We collectively love our iconic game show hosts.

Our best to Trebek and his family. Not that they'll ever read this, but you know, we still hope he's OK.

For the complete, original post, hit up Unfair Park here.

Frankly, I feel these were the true inspiration for Anchorman. If only there was mention of the Octagon.

Videos of the Day

I already like Flight of the Conchords, but this is hysterical:

"Pineapple!...Beef!...Jacques Cousteau!...Where is the swimming pool?"

And I tried like hell to find a clip of the 45-foot plunge by Jake Brown at the X-Games but alas, ESPN is on YouTube ones like a hawk, so here's but a link. It was amazing. I crack my tailbone slipping on ice, and this guy plunges more than 45 feet (which blows his shoes off upon impact) and comes out with a bruised lung and liver. Gets up and with a bit of help walks away. Not that those injuries aren't serious, but as someone who would never even survive such an accident, he's my hero.

In Keeping with Weird Hip-Hoppin...

I present you with these. Please compare and contrast. I, being a self-proclaimed dance nerd, prefer Fosse's original vision, but hey, I suppose it's whatever makes the kids pay attention to greatness, right?

The original:

"Walk It Out":

Thanks to the Widner sisters for the Unk-y link.
